Music Updates for after Spring Break

Hello LBS families,

In the weeks after Spring Break we will be working on the following in Music:

Grade 5/6 - We have finished the Recorder Karate portion of our Recorder Unit.  After Spring Break we will be spending 2-4 Music Classes creating Recorder Compositions using the notes B A G, and performing our compositions for the class.  Recorders will be sent home when this work is finished.

Grade 3/4 - We will be moving, singing and playing instruments to some well known pieces of Classical Music.

Grade 1/2 - We will be finishing our work with Dan Brown's Wild Symphony as we are almost at the end of the book!

Kindergarten - We will begin to practice for our Kindergarten Concert! More information to follow.

Recorders - Grade 5/6 

Grade 5/6 has made great progress on Recorders already!  They have learned a few GAB songs and we have been focussing on playing the notes accurately, maintaining a steady tempo, keeping our left hand on top and playing with good tone.

There is a lot of enthusiasm and they are eager to learn the songs to try for their recorder belts.

The Kindergarten students have been having a great time learning the words and the actions for the Penguin Polka!  Ask your child to show you how to do the dance.

If you would like to hear the music, this is how you can logon to Musicplayonline to hear the song:

• press the button that says 'access some fun'

Once you are logged in, you will see a discover feature on the left hand side.  This is where you can look for songs, games, and activities that we have done in class.

Recorders -January 23 deadline to order Recorders through Powerschool

Dear Grade 5/6 families,

A reminder that the Recorder unit for students in rooms 7, 16, and 17 will be starting on February 1.

If your student has a recorder from a previous year, it can be brought to school at any time up until February 1.  I have encouraged the students to look for their recorders this week so that they have the ability to order before the deadline if they can't find them.

If you wish to purchase a new recorder at a cost of $6.50, it is possible to do so in Powerschool until January 23.  I will place the recorder order on January 24 so we will hopefully have them by February 1.

Happy Holidays!

Hello LBS families,

The concerts last week were absolutely wonderful.  The student's did an excellent job and they were happy to be on stage for the first time in many years.

We couldn't have done it without the support of LBS staff, and all the LBS families who came out to support the show!

Have a wonderful Winter Break and we will see everyone back at school in the New Year!
