Diwali - Sing, Play and Dance!

Diwali is Oct. 24 and we have had a great time learning about it in Music.

Students have learned how to sing a welcome song called Jyoti Dey (give light).  We talked about how the song is in a minor key - a great extension as grades 3-6 have been listening for the difference between major and minor chords.    We then played chords on the Xylophones and Metallophones to the beat while taking turns singing the song.

We also learned how to do a Diwali dance.  A great time for all!

Grade 1 and 2 Xylophone and Metallophone - First Lesson this Year!

Hello LBS families,

The grade 1's and 2's were excited to have their first opportunity to use the Xylophones and Metallophones this year.

After learning how to sing the words to Falling Leaves, we played an accompaniment on the instruments.  We focussed on Mallet technique, playing a steady beat, watching conductor signals and mallet positioning on the bars.  We strike the mallet in the middle, or the 'belly button' of the bar to get the best sound.  We also incorporated what we have learned with dynamics by working hard at playing mezzo piano (mp) or medium soft.
