Hula Hoop Rhythms

 Hula Hoop Rhythms

Grades 3- 6 have been practicing note rhythms, recognizing that beats may be grouped in 4's,  and have become student conductors for their classmates.

4 Hoops are placed on the ground, red (whole note, 4 beats), yellow (half note, 2 beats), green (quarter note, 1 beat) and blue (eighth note, 1/2 beat).  Rests are indicated by jumping outside of a hoop.

Students create rhythm patterns in groups of 4's by moving between the hoops.  Since the beats are grouped in 4's, they have to stay in each position for at least 4 beats (or could be 8, 12, 16 etc)

The conductors are accompanied by a variety of drum beats from the electric piano at different tempos.
