Grade 5/6 - Apple Tree Melody

Grade 5/6 - Apple Tree Melody

The grade 5/6's were taking a familiar song (Apple Tree), and working with a partner to figure out how to play the melody on the barred instruments.

Once we learned the melody, we played the game.  When someone got 'out', they went to a barred instrument and either played the melody or the chords while others played the game.

Grade 5/6 Recorders

Monday January 12, 2026

Dear grade 5/6 families,

We will be starting a Recorder Unit for students in rooms 7, 16 and 17 in February. Students will be able to learn to play Recorder with good tone and develop the ability to read Music (Music Program of Study).

Grade 6 students may still have their recorder from last year.  If they would like to use this recorder, please ensure that it is labelled in a case/bag and is brought to school by Feb. 2.

If you wish to purchase a new recorder at a cost of $3.75, it is possible to access this optional fee through your MyCBE Account. Go into your MyCBE account and select it as an optional purchase.

If you do not wish to purchase a recorder for your student, they will be provided a recorder to use at school.

Orders must be submitted by January 20. I will place the recorder orders on January 20-hopefully they will arrive at the beginning of February.  These are three-piece Carlton recorders that come in a cloth bag with a cleaning wand and are excellent quality and tone.

Recorders will be kept at school for the duration of the Recorder Unit and will be stored in the Music room.  Recorders will be sent home when we are finished with our Recorder Unit late March or early April.

Thank you for your support of this very important music activity.

Sky Full of Stars Movement Grid Activity - Grade 5/6

Sky Full of Stars Movement Grid Activity - Grade 5/6

The Grade 5 and 6 students have been doing a grid movement activity to the song "Sky Full of Stars" by Coldplay.

The students had to remember a pattern of  'forward-right-right-left-left" that they repeated from one side of the grid to the other.  They also had to remember when it was there turn to enter the grid and consistently move on the beat.  It was a challenge but the students enjoyed it.
